Jul 8, 2014 | | Sticky post

So you have spent a lot of time looking at apartment listings, checking which one is the most suitable for you? You have gotten through all the paperwork and you are preparing the stuff which you will be taking to your new flat. It might sound pretty simple but it usually is not. Moving is one of the most stressful times. It is something which requires organization, planning and even some luck to make the transition as smooth as it possibly can be.

Regardless if it is your first time to move or if you have done it many times, we have some tips below which can make your move a lot easier. However, as with other things in life, you should expect the unexpected and be prepared for them.

Be organized

You can hire a house removal company to help you move your things to your new house. However, you should take note that moving is not something which you can simply organize in a single weekend, especially if you have quite a lot of possessions. Always plan ahead and start packing as early as possible. Get enough boxes and label all your boxes. You should write what are the things inside the box and to which room they belong to. For example kitchen utensils-kitchen. This will help save you a lot of time when unpacking.

Get rid of things you do not use

There are some people who are just natural pack rats, accumulating quite a lot of stuff over the years, things which they do not even need or use. Something like this will not make your move easy. As a matter of fact, you will end up spending a lot of money moving things which you no longer need. You will be better off giving them away, donating them or selling them.  What you can do is have a garage sale or sell your unused stuff online.

Get some help

If you will be moving somewhere quite far and if you have more stuff than you can handle, it is best to get the services of a house removal company. There are many such firms in big cities but you have to be careful when choosing a firm. Make sure that the firm has reasonable rates, excellent services, as well as positive reviews from their previous clients. You want to make sure you get your money’s worth and you do not want to spend more than you really have to.

Forward your mail

Make sure that you inform your friends and colleagues of your move. However, try as you might there might be somebody whom you have forgotten to inform about your change of address. So, register your change of address with the local post office. Most post office will be able to forward your mail for a small fee. You certainly do not want to lose important mail from friends, family or businesses which you deal with.

Transfer your services

Apart from your mail, you should also transfer your monthly services such as your cable subscription, internet and phone. If you do not need them anymore, make sure that you cancel them.
